About Mike Leach
Mike Leach was a celebrated coach whose contributions to the development of college football cannot be overlooked. He earned his first coaching role in 1987 when he was appointed an assistant at Cal Poly Mustangs, the football team of the California Polytechnic State University.
He went on to work with other institutions before he was named as the head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders of Texas Tech University in 2000. He also coached the football teams of Washington State University, and Mississippi State University before his demise in 2022. He helped the former to win the Pac-12 North Division in 2018.
Family
He was raised by his parents Sandra and Frank Leach, and had five younger siblings. The renowned football coach had four children with his wife named Sharon.
Education
Leach played football during his time at Cody High School. He continued at Brigham Young University. He later studied at Pepperdine University, and also the United States Sports Academy.
Achievements
In 2015 and 2018, he was named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year. He also won the Big 12 Coach of the Year. Other popular accolades that he received were the Woody Hayes Trophy, and the George Munger Award.
Death
According to reports, the coach died from complications of a heart problem.

Throughout his career, he managed some top talents like Neal Brown, and Kliff Kingsbury.
His dream of becoming an NFL player was cut short by an injury he had in high school.
