About Mike Nichols
Mike Nichols is noted for being gifted at making both experienced and inexperienced actors put up their best and for being adept at working in diverse genres. He made his directorial debut in 1961 through plays. Five years later, he finally directed “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”, his first film, which swept multiple awards. His other well-known films include “Catch-22”, “The Graduate” and “Closer”.
Prior to his directorial work, he had performed as half of the improv comedy duo, Nichols and May.

He was born Mikhail Igor Peschkowsky to Pavel and Brigitte Peschkowsky. He was a three-time divorcee. His fourth marriage to news anchor Diane Sawyer lasted until his death. He had three children.

His accolades include the National Medal of Arts, a Grammy Award and multiple Tony, Emmy and BAFTA Awards.

He was 83 when he died on 19 November 2014 due to a heart attack.
