Background
Born to a Jewish Russian family on May 9, 1918 in Massachusetts, Wallace attended Brookline High School in 1929. He went on to the University of Michigan, where he majored in journalism.
Career
Wallace started his career as a radio announcer in 1940; and by 1949, he was a television host. He got the job of a lifetime in 1968 as host of CBS “60 Minutes”; and his first guest was fellow journalist Harry Reasoner.
He interviewed over 200 guests from religious leader Louis Farrakhan, where the interview was rather intense, to former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Wallace is known for his blunt and aggressive interviews. He received 21 Emmy Awards and three George Foster Peabody Awards for his contribution to journalism.
He retired in 2008 with baseball star Roger Clemens as his last guest.
