About Milan Kundera
A former member of Czech’s Communist Party, Milan Kundera combined political criticisms and comedy to produce many interesting novels. His expulsion from the party in 1950 inspired his 1967 novel entitled “The Joke”.
In 1975, Kundera migrated to France in an attempt to escape the political disturbance in his country. It was during his time in the country that his work started to flourish. His 1984 novel entitled “The Unbearable Lightness of Being” is seen as his best work.
Family
His dad Ludvík Kundera, a renowned Czech musicologist, initially wanted him to pursue a career in music. His mum was called Milada Kunderová.
Education
He studied at Prague’s Charles University, and later went to the Academy of Performing Arts to study filmmaking.
Honors
Kundera received many awards for his numerous works. Some popular accolades that he received include Jerusalem Prize, Herder Prize, The Austrian State Prize for European Literature, and Czech State Literature Prize.
Facts
He had both French and Czech passports.
He was labelled a “police informer” after he allegedly reported Miroslav Dvořáček, who worked as a secret agent, to the police.
