The former golf star scored his first title during the Azalea Open in 1964. He went on to bag 8 wins in 8 PGA Tours in a row. A world-class golfer, he once held a record for combined PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions.
Early Life
He started pursuing the game at age 11 in Texarkana. Following his graduation from the University of Arkansas in 1954, he enlisted in the Air Force and served for 4 years.
Professional Career
After his discharge from the Force, he turned professional. His PGA performance garnered little success, but his fortunes changed following a stint as head pro at the Apawamis Club in New York.
In 1973, during the World Open Gold Championships, he bagged 3 wins against Ben Crenshaw. Throughout his career, he secured over 40 professional wins. His rivals in the game have included Gary Player, Kermit Zarley, George Archer and Jerry Pate.
Notable Feat
He placed 7th in the 1969 Masters Tournament and 10th in the Open Championship the same year.
