About Miriam Stoppard
The English television personality and medical practitioner is popularly known as the host of the medical television show “Don’t Ask Me”. She also played the role of an agony aunt on an advice column in the Daily Mirror.
Family
She tied the knot with British playwright Tom Stoppard in 1972; their marriage lasted for twenty years. After the divorce, she married British business executive Christopher Hogg in 1997; the marriage lasted until 2021, when Hogg died. She is the mother of two children, including Ed Stoppard, who is an actor.
Education
Stoppard studied at the Central High School in Eskdale Terrace and studied medicine at King’s College, Durham (Newcastle University).
Career
As a doctor, she served as a senior registrar at Bristol Royal Infirmary, specializing in dermatology. She also worked as a research director for the Mexican pharmaceutical company Syntex in the pharmaceutical industry.
During the 1970s and 1980s, she became a known face on television screens, presenting medical programs including “Don’t Ask Me” which ran on ITV from 1974 to 1978, and “Where There’s Life”.
Stoppard is the author of the book “Children’s Medical Handbook”. She also writes on a number of health concerns, especially on women’s health.
Honors
She received Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2010 New Year Honors for her dedication to healthcare and charity.
Stoppard won the “Journalist of the Year” award at the Stonewall Awards on November 6, 2012.
