About Mohamed Atta
Mohamed Atta was an Egyptian terrorist who hijacked one of the four commercial aircrafts which were eventually used in the September 11 attacks.
It was during his master’s studies in Hamburg, Germany that Atta became acquainted with radical Islamists Marwan al-Shehhi, Ziad Jarrah and Ramzi bin al-Shibh. They became known as the Hamburg cell and were eventually recruited by al-Qaeda militant, Osama Bin Laden.
Atta himself died during the attack on 11 September 2001 and was known to be the oldest (33) amongst the attackers.
Family Life
He was the only son and youngest of three children of Bouthayna Mohamed Mustapha Sheraqi and Mohamed el-Amir Awad el-Sayed Atta.

15 minutes after American Airlines Flight 11 departed from Boston to Los Angeles at 7:59 am, Atta started the air hijacking. He crashed it into the World Trade Centre’s North Tower, New York City, at 8:46 am.
