About Molière
Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, popularly known as Molière was a French playwright and actor. He is considered as one of the French language’s best writers that ever lived. He influenced the future of literature through his take on farces, comedies and tragicomedies. His work on stage made him so prominent that he was invited to perform with his troupe for King Louis XIV and later gained permission to use the theatre in the palace for his shows. His well-known works include “The School for Husbands”, “The Affected Ladies” and “The School for Wives”.
Family Life
He was the son of Marie Cressé and Jean Poquelin, who were both well-to-do. He wed actress Amanda Bejart in February 1662. He had three children.
Death
On February 17 1673, he was acting in his final play on stage when he collapsed. He finished his performance and died some hours later in his home.
