About Mordecai Ham
Mordecai Ham was an evangelist and leader of the temperance movement, which called for the total abstinence from alcohol. He was known for his controversial racist and anti-Semitic takes.
Call to Service
As a young man growing up in Allen County, Kentucky, Mordecai Ham initially ignored God’s call to service in favor of becoming a salesman. A few months after getting married to his first wife, Bessie, he quit his job and decided to become an evangelist.
Four years after becoming an evangelist, the evangelist lost Bessie. He later remarried Annie Laurie and the couple welcomed three daughters.
Mordecai Ham spent over 30 years as an evangelist. It’s been estimated that he reached over 300,000 people. One of his most notable converts was the famed preacher, Billy Graham.
The famous evangelist passed away in 1961.
Opinions
Ham was against alcohol and other social vices. He had also had some very appalling views. For example, he viewed Jews as people who were beyond saving. He also believed that white races were the chosen ones of God.
