About Morihei Ueshiba
During his youth, Morihei Ueshiba was trained in some martial art disciplines. In 1919, he became a member of the Ōmoto-kyō movement where he started working as an instructor of martial arts. It was during this period that he commissioned his first-ever dojo, a place for meditation and/or immersive learning.
Regarded as one of the famous martial artists in history, Ueshiba was noted for introducing the Aikido martial art style. In 1926, he established the famous Aikikai Hombu Dojo which would serve as the original training center of the Aikido style.
Family
He was raised by his parents Yuki and Yoroku Ueshiba together with three other children. He had four children including martial art expert Kisshomaru Ueshiba.
Achievements
His contributions to martial arts earned him many awards including the Medal of Honor, Order of the Sacred Treasure, and the Order of the Rising Sun.
Trivia
He was trained by Takeda Sōkaku.
Some of his notable students were Jacques Payet, Robert Mustard, and Mitsugi Saotome.
Until 1907, he was a member of the Japanese Army.
