About Moritz Wagner
German basketball star Moritz Wagner played a key role in his country’s success at the FIBA Europe U18 Championship in 2014. He also played for the U20 side before joining the senior team. He was one of Germany’s top performers during the Olympic Games in 2020.
Career highlights
Before moving to the United States, Wagner was a regular member of the Alba Berlin team in his native country. The German power forward rose to stardom in 2018 when he was picked by NBA side, the Los Angeles Lakers. He spent his first year at the team’s D-League outfit, the South Bay Lakers.
He has also starred for other prominent teams in the NBA including the Boston Celtics, the Washington Wizards and the Orlando Magic.
Family
During his time at Magic, he played alongside Franz Wagner, his brother. He’s the son of Beate Wagner.
Education
Before making his NBA debut, he was a regular member of the University of Michigan’s basketball team known as the Michigan Wolverines.
Achievements
He was named the Most Valuable Player at the Big Ten Tournament in 2018. That same year, he was selected into the All-Big Ten second-team.
Trivia
Wagner withdrew from the NBA Draft in 2017 to continue his education at Michigan.
