Born in New York City, Dixon served in the United States Army during the First World War. He arranged musical shows to entertain the soldiers and toured around France after the war.
Career
Dixon started his career as an actor and published his first work “That Old Gang of Mine” (1923), which was successful. He went on to contribute to Broadway plays and composed scores for films such as “Happiness Ahead” and “Sweet Music”. This genius worked with other notable composers like Harry Warren and Ray Henderson. His other successful works are “Bye Bye Blackbird”, “I'm Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover”, “Nagasaki”, and “I Found a Million Dollar Baby (in a Five and Ten Cent Store)”. Dixon was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.
