About Muhammad Yunus
Muhammad Yunus is a celebrated Bangladeshi entrepreneur, economist and banker known worldwide for being the founder of the Grameen Bank and as a pioneer of the microfinance and microcredit business. In 2006, he and his bank Grameen Bank were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for helping poor people break out of poverty by giving them access to loans.
Personal Life
He had his first child, Monica Yunus, with his first wife Vera Forostenko. His second marriage was to Afrozi Yunus, with whom he had his second child, Deena Afroz Yunus.
Achievements
In addition to winning the Nobel Peace Prize, he has also received several other highly prestigious awards and honors including the Gandhi Peace Prize and the two highest civilian awards in the United States: the Congressional Gold Medal and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Trivia
In 2011, the Government of Bangladesh forced him to resign from the Grameen Bank because he had flouted the country's laws by staying at the helm of Grameen several years past the mandatory retirement age of 60.
