About Nacho Novo
Ignacio Javier Gómez Novo is a former Spanish international who played predominantly as a forward. He was known for his amazing career in Scotland and numerous stints in Spain. The former footballer played with impressive speed and had outstanding penalty-taking skills.
Career
In his first season in Scotland, he scored 22 goals in 38 games for Raith Rovers after moving from SD Huesca. Prior to moving to Scotland, he had played for Racing Ferrol and Somozas. At the latter, he made 35 appearances and scored 16 goals.
The forward was hired by Dundee United in 2002, and in his second year, he scored four goals in the UEFA Cup. He joined Rangers two seasons later and scored 25 goals in his debut year.
He joined Sporting de Gijón in 2010 and then had brief stints with Legia Warsaw, Huesca, and Glentoran. He was never called up to the Spanish national team, but made his debut for Galicia against Iran in 2008.
Early Life
His father, Ricardo Gómez Varela, was a center half who played for Real Betis for one season.
Personal Life
In 2004, he tied the knot with Donna Clark in a ceremony officiated by his former Rangers teammate Marvin Andrews.
Trivia
While competing for a team of Rangers icons in Berlin in January 2018, he had a heart attack and was transported to the hospital for emergency surgery.
