About Nanak Singh
Nanak Singh was a popular Indian writer who published most of his works in the Punjabi language. He gained international recognition with his 1945 novel “Pavitar Papi” which was adapted into a movie of similar name in 1970. His other publications such as “Chitta Lahu” and “Ik Mian Do Talwaran” made him one of the most influential Indian writers of his generation.
Aside from his books, Singh also wrote a number of poems, plays and songs which were all published in his native language.
Family
His original name was Hans Raj. The writer was married to Raj Kaur with whom he had six children.
Recognitions
In 1962, he received the Sahitya Akademi Award, which is considered to be the highest literary award in India.
Interesting facts about Nanak Singh
He had no formal education. In 1998, his image was featured on some postal stamps in his native country.
He was arrested by the British for supporting his country’s independence movement.
