The French actress has acted in a lot of French films and is popular for starring in “La Balance'' and “Le Petit Lieutenant''. In the latter, which was a 2005 crime drama film directed by French filmmaker Xavier Beauvois, the multiple Cesar Award winner appeared alongside Jalil Lespert and Antoine Chappey. In addition to receiving a César Award for her role as Caroline Vaudieu, she was nominated for Best Actress at the European Film Awards.
Early Life
She was born to Claude Baye and Denise Coustet in Mainneville, Eure, Normandy. Baye enrolled in a dance in Monaco at age 14. She graduated from the Conservatoire in 1972.
Career
The second film that the legendary actress played a role in was “Two People” (1973), which was directed by Robert Wise. Other credits of hers include “Day for Night”, “Everyman for Himself”, “The Return of Martin Guerre” and “Strange Affair”. In the latter, which was a 1981 film directed by Pierrre Granier-Deferre, she starred alongside Michel Piccoli, Jean-Pierre Kalfon and Gérard Lanvin.
The actress has also worked with Claude Chabrol and Steven Spielberg. She worked with the latter in “Catch Me If You Can”, a 2002 biographical crime film that starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.
Awards
The “La Balance” actress was voted Best Supporting Actress at the Venice Film Festival for “Une Liaison Pornographique” in 1999.
Family
The multiple Cesar Award nominee was previously married to French poet and actor Philippe Léotard and French musician Johnny Hallyday. She has a daughter named Laura Smet.
