Nathan Bedford Forrest was a lieutenant general during the American Civil War. He had the nickname "The Wizard of the Saddle".
His Legacy
He is regarded as a brutal and innovative cavalry leader during the Civil War. He served as the first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, but he later distanced himself from the organization. He was accused of war crimes (Battle of Fort Pillow) for allowing his men to massacre hundreds of black Union Army and white Southern Unionist prisoners.

He was married once and he had 2 children. His grandson Nathan Bedford Forrest II became Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan.
