About Nathaniel Currier
Nathaniel Currier began his lithography training when he was a teenager. He worked with a number of organizations before creating his first company known as ‘Currier & Stodart’. After the collapse of the firm, he established another one in 1835, which would later be known as Currier & Ives, after James Ives came on board.
Later in 1835, the American lithographer issued a work titled “Ruins of the Merchant's Exchange N.Y. after the Destructive Conflagration of Decbr 16 & 17, 1835” which was featured in the New York Sun. His other popular print titled “Awful Conflagration of the Steam Boat 'Lexington' in Long Island Sound on Monday Eveg Jany 13th 1840, by Which Melancholy Occurrence Over 100 Persons Perished” was also featured in the same publication.
Family
His parents were Hannah and Nathaniel Currier. In 1840, he became the husband of Eliza West Farnsworth. They welcomed their only child the following year. After the death of his wife, Currier tied the knot with Lura Ormsbee in 1847.

He had a good relationship with famous showman and politician P.T. Barnum.
He first apprenticed at John and William Pendleton’s lithography company.
