About Neal Broten
Neal LaMoy Broten is a former professional American Ice hockey player and member of the United States Olympics team. He was also a participant of the USA team at the 1981 Canada Cup and 1984 Canada Cup tournaments. He participated in the 1990 Ice Hockey World Championship.
Education
He studied at Roseau High School with his brothers.
Playing Career
He played for the Minnesota North Stars in the National Hockey League from 1980 -1991 where he scored over 225 goals and made about 500 assists. He went on to play with BSC Preussen in Germany for the 1991 – 92, scoring less than 5 goals and making about 5 assists. He went back to play for the Minnesota North Stars during the 1991-93 seasons. There, he scored about 20 goals and made nearly 50 assists.
From 1993 – 95, Broten played for the Dallas Stars, scoring less than 20 goals, and making about 40 assists. He captained the team for two months during the shortened 1994 -95 NHL season
He spent the 1994- 97 seasons playing for the New Jersey Devils, garnering about 15 goals and nearly 40 assists. He was with the Los Angeles Kings during the 1996 – 97 season.
The former center ice hockey player featured for the Phoenix Roadrunners in the International Hockey League and the Dallas Stars during his final 1996 – 97 seasons, making a total of 6 goals and assists and 8 goals and less than 10 assists, respectively.
Awards
He was part of the team that won the gold medal at Lake Placid in 1980.
In 2000, he was inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame.
Broten was named WCHA Rookie of the Year.
