About Neal Cassady
Neal Leon Cassady’s teenage years were filled with frequent trips in and out of correctional facilities for crimes such as car theft, shoplifting and fencing stolen goods. An encounter with educator Justin W. Bierly helped him pursue high school studies, secure employment and form a friendship with his protégé Hal Chase. Through the latter, the poet would later meet the likes of Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, who became members of the Beat Generation, a movement for which Cassady became known in the 1950s.
Family Life
He was the son of Maude Scheuer and Neal Marshall Cassady. His first wife was LuAnne Henderson, who was 16 at the time of their marriage (1945). He married writer Carolyn Robinson in 1948 after his marriage to LuAnne was annulled. He had five children.

His writing took on a stream of consciousness narrative method. It is believed that his writing style influenced Kerouac’s. He never had any formally-published work.
