About Neil Jenkins
Neil Jenkins was one of the biggest rugby stars during the 1990s and early 2000s. He made a name for himself during his time with Pontypridd Rugby Football Club which he joined in 1990. The Welsh, who mostly played as either a fly-half or a full back, also played for some illustrious teams during his playing days. Some of them are Cardiff RFC and Celtic Warriors.
On the international stage, he played for his country’s U21 side in 1991, and made his senior team debut the same year. After retiring from the game as a player, he took up a coaching role at the WRU Academies in 2004. Two years later he was added to the coaching staff of the Welsh senior national team.
Achievements
Due to his contribution to sports, he was honored with the ‘Most Excellent Order of the British Empire’ in 2000.
He won the Six Nations Grand Slam with the Welsh team, as a coach, in the 2007-08 season.
Trivia
Prior to his retirement in 2004, he was the only player to record over thousand points whiles playing international rugby.
