About Neil Lennon
Neil Lennon started his soccer career in the 1980s with Northern Irish side Glenavon. After a number of eye-catching performances, he joined English side Manchester City in 1987. However, he gained attention after he signed for Crewe Alexandra in 1990.
The midfielder established himself as one of the key players in the squad and spent a little over five years with the team. He became an international star when he joined Scottish team Celtic F.C. in 2000. During his seven years spell with them, he won five Scottish Premier League and four Scottish Cups.
International career
Lennon rose through Northern Ireland’s youth system before making his senior team debut in 1994. He won 40 caps before retiring from international duties.
Coaching career
He began his coaching career right after hanging his boots. He earned his first job in 2008 when he was appointed Celtic’s first team trainer. In 2010, he was named as the caretaker coach of the team before he became their permanent coach later that year. He has also coached some popular soccer teams like Hibernian, and Bolton Wanderers.
Personal Life
He’s the husband of Irene Lennon whom he married in 2008.
Achievements
He was named the SPL Manager of the Year in 2012. In 2020, he won his third SFWA Manager of the Year award.
