Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior is a renowned Brazilian professional footballer who is known for his versatility on the field, playing as either a central striker, second striker or as an attacking midfielder.
He is also well-known for his goal-scoring prowess. He is recognized among the world’s top-ranked football players. He has played for top European clubs Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona. The Brazilian forward, who often wears the No. 10 jersey, has won several awards, including “World Soccer Young Player of the Year” in 2011 and La Liga Best World Player: 2014–15.

Youth Career
He played for the Portuguese club Portuguesa Santista from 1999 – 2003 and later went on to play for Brazilian club Santos F.C from 2003 and 2009.
Senior Career
The star player rose to prominence at Santos F.C., making his first professional appearance at the age of seventeen. From 2009 – 2013, he played in over 170 matches and netted over 100 goals. He was also an instrumental player in leading the club to win two consecutive Campeonato Paulista championships, a Copa do Brasil, and the 2011 Copa Libertadores; the latter was the club’s first win since 1963.
He moved to play for the Spanish giants F.C Barcelona in 2013, playing with them for the next four seasons (2013 – 2017). He played in an attacking trio with Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez. Those three South Americans were named MSN. Neymar was brilliant in Barcelona’s success that period as the Spanish club won the continental treble of La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Champions League. His four years in Barcelona saw him appear in over 120 matches and scored nearly 70 goals.
Transfer to PSG
The Brazil international became the most expensive player in the world at the time when he secured a transfer to the French club Paris Saint–Germain in 2017 for €222 million.
As of 2022, the football star holds four league titles. He won Ligue 1 Player of the Year in his first season. He has also achieved other remarkable successes with the club such as helping them gain a local quadruple in the 2019-20 season and leading the club to its premier Champions League Final.
National Team
Neymar became the second highest goal scorer for the Brazilian national team, scoring over 70 goals in less than 120 matches as of 2022. During his early days with the team, he was a prominent player in the win at the 2011 South American Youth Championship, becoming a goal scoring leader and attaining a silver medal in men’s football at the 2012 Summer Olympics held in London.
He was unable to participate in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2015 Copa América due to injury and a suspension, respectively.
He later became captain of the team and led them to win their first Olympic gold medal in men’s football at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Brazil.
After relinquishing the captaincy, he made an appearance at the 2018 World Cup hosted by Russia and helped the team finish as runner-up at the 2021 Copa América tournament in Brazil.
Trivia
Neymar ranked as the world’s third highest paid player in 2018. He also received a Forbes ranking of the world’s third highest-paid athlete in 2019.
