About Nikolai Valuev
Russian retired professional boxer Nikolai Valuev first made his professional debut in 1993. Possibly advantaged by his stature (2.13 metres tall and 149 kilograms at his peak), he fought in the heavyweight class until his retirement in 2009.
He recorded only two losses out of 53 professional matches. Two years after he retired from the sport, he ventured into politics and won a seat in the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Russia (State Duma) during the 2011 Russian parliamentary election.
Personal Life
He suffers from gigantism and acromegaly, both of which have contributed to his size and appearance. He is a father of three: a daughter and two sons.
Achievements
Between 2005 and 2009, he won the World Boxing Association’s heavyweight championship two times.
Trivia
With help from Konstantin Osipov, a Russian journalist, he published an autobiography titled “My 12 Rounds”.
