About Nikos Kazantzakis
Nikos was a Greek literary icon and was known to be an important figure in the world of modern Greek literature.
Personal Life
He was very interested in getting educated at a young age. In his early twenties, he attended the University of Athens and studied law. He then moved on to study philosophy at the University of France. In 1911, he made Galatea Alexiou his wife but the relationship fizzled out after about fifteen years. He later got together with Eleni Samiou and made her his wife.
Career
He started publishing his works in 1906 and his first to be published was “Serpent and Lily”. About three years later, he worked on “Comedy”, which was a one act play. He went on to write “The Master Builder”. He spent most of his life travelling and learning new things, gaining knowledge, exploring cultures and understanding different philosophies. It was during that time that he put together “The Odyssey: A Modern Sequel”. This work took him almost fifteen years to complete. Other works he has done include “The Last Temptation of Christ” and “Zorba the Greek”.
Death
Nikos was later diagnosed with Leukemia. Even though he did not really let it drag him down in his everyday life, he was unable to keep it at bay and passed away.
