NRJ Music Award winner Nolwenn Le Magueresse, affectionately called Nolwenn Leroy, is a multilingual musician who burst into the limelight after becoming Star Academy's winner in 2002. She can boast of over seven studio albums, with her 2012 album "Bretonne" going platinum after selling a million copies.
Leroy's Early Life
Leroy lived most of her early life in Paris with her mother, Mural Leroy, and her younger sister. She, unfortunately, didn't see her father, Jean Luc Le Magueresse, much because her parents were divorced.
The musician started her education at the College des Celestins and later moved to Hamilton High School under the sponsorship of the Rotary Club. She discovered her love for music and later enrolled in the University of Clemont-Ferrand to study law.
How It All Started
With a law degree in hand, Leroy was ready to take on the world, but after watching the "Star Academy", she changed her mind about law and focused on performing arts. She practiced and joined the next season of Star Academy. Her voice and grace dazzled the judges immensely. Leroy won the hearts of fans and won the competition in 2002.
Professional Career
Leroy debuted her first album “Nolwenn” in 2003, and the album went platinum twice, in 2003 and 2006. She won numerous awards for her craft and continued to make more popular albums such as "Bretonne" in 2010. Some of her songs were featured in the 2014 animated film “Song of the Sea”.
Personal Life
Leroy married Arnaud Clement in 2008.
