About Norbert Wiener
Norbert Wiener has been considered as the father of cybernetics. Through his research, the American mathematician contributed to a number of fields including control systems and electronic engineering. He also played a key role in the development of present-day artificial intelligence.
His findings led him to publish many books with some titled “The Human Use of Human Beings” and “The Fourier Integral and Certain of its Applications”. As a professor, he worked with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Family
He was one of the children of Leo Wiener, a famous American historian and his wife Bertha Kahn. He was married to Margaret Engemann and together they had two kids.
Education
In 1906, he completed his education at Ayer High School. He later moved to Tufts College before enrolling at Cornell University. He had his PhD program at Harvard University.
Awards
He was a recipient of the National Medal of Science and the Bôcher Memorial Prize.
Trivia
Wiener also trained some well-known scholars like Norman Levinson, Shikao Ikehara and Brockway McMillan.
In 1967, the mathematics department of MIT, introduced the Norbert Wiener Prize in Applied Mathematics to honor his contributions.
