About Norman Bel Geddes
Norman Bel Geddes began his career as a set designer and worked for the Los Angeles Little Theater between 1916 and 1917. After working on a number of theatrical works, the American designer established an industrial studio in 1927. This gave him the opportunity to design some ground-breaking structures.
Two years later, he provided the design for the Airliner Number 4. At the New York World's Fair in 1939, he designed the famous Futurama which was supported by American manufacturing company General Motors. He also worked on the cover of IBM's Mark I computer.
Family
He was originally christened Norman Melancton Geddes and was raised by his parents Clifton Terry Geddes and Flora Luelle Yingling. His two children with Helen Belle Schneider were named Joan Bel Geddes Ulanov, a writer, and Barbara Bel Geddes, an actress.
Recognitions
He has been inducted into the highly-rated American Theater Hall of Fame.
Facts
In 1940, he published a book titled “Magic Motorways”.
He worked on the popular Broadway musical “The Five O'Clock Girl”.
