About Norman Borlaug
Norman Borlaug was an agronomist who is remembered best for his contributions to the Green Revolution, a period between 1950 and the late 1960s, which was marked by a worldwide increase in agricultural productivity.
He developed and introduced disease-resistant and high-yield varieties of wheat alongside improved farming techniques to countries such as Mexico, India and Pakistan. His research and gesture have been credited for averting worldwide hunger and improving food security.
Family Life
He was the son of Clara and Henry Oliver Borlaug. He had three younger sisters. He was raised on his grandparents’ farm in Iowa. He was married to Margaret Gibson from 1937 until 2007 (her death). They had three children.
Achievements
He was the recipient of the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize. Other notable awards received by him include the Congressional Gold Medal and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Death
He was 95 when he passed away from lymphoma on 12 September 2009.
