American lyricist and songwriter Norman Gimbel rose to fame through his work on popular songs and movie/television themes. He provided the lyrics for popular hits such as “Killing Me Softly with His Song”, “Canadian Sunset” and “Ready to Take a Chance Again”.
He earned credits for writing movie themes such as “It Goes Like It Goes” for the American drama film, “Norma Rae” and “I Got a Name” for the sports drama film, “The Last American Hero”. He was a longtime collaborator of film and television music composer Charles Fox.

He was born to Jewish immigrants resident in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Baruch College and Columbia University, where he studied English.
Achievements
He was the recipient of an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Grammy Award for Song of the Year. He is a Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee.
