About Norman Jewison
Norman Frederick Jewison is a retired Canadian film director, screenwriter and producer. He founded the Canadian Film Centre which has trained several actors and filmmakers.
Life education
Norman attended Kew Beach School and Marvin Collegiate Institute. He graduated from University of Toronto in 1949. He applied himself in writing, acting and directing.
He wrote screenplays for a children's TV show in London. Upon his return to Canada, he worked as a production trainee at CBLT, Toronto.
Career: Television and Films
At CBS Television, he worked on "The Big Revue, Showtime" and "The Barris Beat”. NBC-New York employed him in 1958 where his success in "Your Hit Parade" and "The Andy Williams Show" earned him the chance to direct Harry Belafonte and Danny Kaye, among other top performers.
In 1993, he worked on "Geromino", a biographical film for TNT.
He worked in Curtleigh Productions, after which he started his own film production company called Simkoe Productions, which later signed a two-picture contract with Curtis Enterprises and Universal International Pictures.
He directed "The Cincinnati Kid" in 1965. The film, which starred Karl Malden and Steve McQueen, was a commercial success and also happens to be one of his own favorite dramas. Norman has written, produced and directed many other films and series from 1962 to 2003.

As of 2022, he has 12 wins out of 41 Academy Awards nominations; 22 BAFTA nominations with 4 wins, and 12 wins out of 41 Golden Globe Awards nominations.
Besides, he has nominations and awards from Berlin International Film Festival, British Academy Film, Moscow International Film Festival and Golden Eddie Awards.
Service in the Royal Canadian Navy
He also has been honored with Officer and Companion of the Order of Canada (OC and CC, 1981 and 1991, respectively) and ribbons for his service in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II.
Trivia
In 1998, Norman was awarded a star on Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto.
