About Norodom Sihanouk
Norodom Sihanouk was the King of Cambodia and a politician. He ascended the throne of the Kingdom of Cambodia after the death of his maternal grandfather, King Monivong in 1941, when the country was under French colonial rule. He helped Cambodia gain independence from France in 1953 and abdicated the throne for his father two years later to pursue politics full-time. By 1945, he had become the first Prime Minister of Cambodia. He was ousted in 1970 but returned in 1975. He reigned for a second time as King from 1941 to 1955.
Family Life
He was Norodom Suramarit and Sisowath Kossamak’s only child. Besides his marriage to Norodom Monineath (born Paule Monique Izzi) who became his official secondary consort, all his other five marriages ended in divorce. He had 14 children.
Death
He died on 15th October 2012 of a heart attack in Beijing, China.
