About Odilon Redon
Odilon Redon developed a love for art at an early age which earned him a drawing award before reaching his teens.
He gained widespread fame in 1884 when his oeuvre was mentioned in Joris-Karl Huysmans' novel titled “Against Nature (À rebours)”. Some of his most popular works were titled “The Death of the Buddha” and “Lady of the Flowers”.
Family
His original name was Bertrand Redon and was born to a slave merchant and his wife Marie Guérin. He was the brother of renowned architect Gaston Redon.
Education
He briefly studied at the École des Beaux-Arts.
Achievements
Redon was a recipient of the Legion of Honor in 1903.
Trivia
He was trained by Jean-Léon Gérôme, a famous French painter.
The Museum of Modern Art, in 2005, showcased over 100 of his works during their exhibition titled "Beyond The Visible".
