Career Highlights
A pioneer of the game of tennis, Campbell won his first major title in 1888 in the US Open Grand Slam doubles playing with Valentine Hall. He would go on to win in 1891 and 1892 with Bob Huntington. He set the record for the youngest male player, at the age of 19 years, to win the Men’s Singles Championship in 1890, where he defeated Henry Slocum. He held onto the record until 1990 when it was broken by former World Number 1, Pete Sampras. Campbell was World Number 1 from 1890 to 1892. He was posthumously inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1955.
