About Orhan Pamuk
Pamuk is a renowned Turkish novelist, known as one of the most prominent novelist Turkey has ever produced. He became a recipient of the Nobel Prize in 2006, making him the first Turkish to attain such. He also became the country's best-selling writer after making sales of thirteen million books in sixty-three languages.
Pamuk penned his first novel when he was between the ages of 22 and 30. His writings became more regular in 1974, with his first work being “Karanlık ve Işık (Darkness and Light)”.
He is credited to have authored novels like “Silent House”, “My Name Is Red”, “A Strangeness in My Mind”, “The Museum of Innocence”, and several more.
His influences are namely Oğuz Atay, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Leo Tolstoy, Laurence Sterne, and others.
His parents are father, Gündüz Pamuk and mother, Şeküre Pamuk. His siblings are Hümeyra and economic historian Şevket Pamuk. He was married to Aylin Türegün from 1982 until 2001. His daughter is Rüya Pamuk.
He was romantically involved with Kiran Desai. He entered a romantic relationship with Aslı Akyavaş in 2011.
Pamuk earned the "Milliyet Press Novel Contest Award" in (1979); "Orhan Kemal Novel Prize" (1973); "Madarali Novel Prize" (1984); "Independent Foreign Fiction Prize" (1990); "Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival" (1991).
In 2005, he received "Peace Prize of the German Book Trade" and "Prix Médicis étranger"; in 2006, he won "Nobel Prize in Literature", "Washington University's Distinguished Humanist Award, and "Ordre des Arts et des Lettres".
Pamuk finished from Robert College secondary school in Istanbul; studied architecture at Istanbul Technical University.
