About Orrin Hatch
Orrin Hatch was a notable American politician. In 2019, he became the Republican’s longest-serving senator in history. He was voted into the senate in 1917 from Utah and held that position for more than four decades. This also made him the state’s longest-serving senator.
Other positions
While serving as Utah’s Senator, Hatch also held other political positions including serving as the chairman of some committees like the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and the Senate Finance Committee. In 2015, he was made the President pro tempore of the Senate.
Family
He spent his early years with his parents Helen Frances Kamm and Jesse Hatch alongside eight siblings. He was married to Elaine Hansen. Their union, which took place in 19577, produced six children.
Education
He read history at Brigham Young University and continued at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
Honors
Hatch received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2018 and the Canterbury Medal two years later.

Aside from his political works, he was also known to be a musician and played a number of instruments including the piano and violin.
He appeared in the film “Traffic” which was released in 2000.
As a writer, he published many books with some titled “Square Peg: Confessions of a Citizen Senator” and “The Equal Rights Amendment: Myths and Realities”.
The Medal of Freedom was presented to him by ex-US president Donald Trump.
