About Oscar Wilde
Oscar Wilde was an Irish writer and playwright.
His Highlights/Legacy
Works: "The Importance of Being Earnest" (play), "The Picture of Dorian Gray" (novel).
He was one of London's most popular and best-selling playwrights and writers in the early 1890's. His novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray" has been adapted into dozens of films, stage plays and TV series and it has become a classic.
His Personal Life
He was married to Constance Lloyd and they had 2 children. He was a bisexual and he had many extramarital affairs.
He was prosecuted for libel by his lover's father and he was eventually convicted and imprisoned for 2 years' hard labour during the late 1890's. He died destitute in Paris. He was only 46 years old.
