Early Life
Born into an elite São Paulo family, Oswald de Andrade became exposed to newer and more exciting literary styles through his numerous trips around Europe.
Notable Facts
He pioneered the literary movement, Antropofagia, which called on Brazilians to embrace their own traditional literary style while assimilating European theories to promote the Brazilian avant-garde. In his 1928 book, “Manifesto Antropofagio,” he talked about how Brazil has been empowered by its age-long tendency for cannibalising other cultures.
Other notable works of the Brazilian poet include “Memórias Sentimentais de João Miramar,” “A Crise da Filosofia Messiânica,” “Meu Testamento,” “Estrela de absinto” and “A Marcha dad Utopias.”
Trivia
