About Otto Wagner
The Austrian architect designed famous buildings such as Postal Office Savings Bank Building, Nussdorf weir and lock, Kirche am Steinhof and Karlsplatz Stadtbahn Station. He also worked with renowned designers such as Ludwig von Förster and Karl Friedrich Schinke and was a principal member of the Vienna Secession movement of Architecture. He authored the book “Modern Architecture” in 1896.
Education
He studied at the Vienna Polytechnic Institute, the Royal Academy of Architecture and Vienna Academy of Fine Arts.
Career
Wagner completed his first major project Orthodox Synagogue on Rumbach Street in Budapest and his design later won a contest in 1886. His next big project was the Austrian Länderbank in Vienna which won the design competition in 1882 and was built between 1883 and 84. During the mid-90s, he designed many buildings which became known as the Vienna Secession style, an art movement by Austrian painters and architects including Otto Wagner, Josef Hoffman and Gustav Klimt.
In 1898, he designed the Vienna Metro stations, which were decorated by Austrian artist Koloman Moser.
