Early Life
The basketball player was born to Leon Riley and Mary Riley. Riley is a graduate of Linton High School and the University of Kentucky.
Career as a Player
Riley made his professional debut for San Diego Rockets in 1967 and continued to play with the team for 3 years. The basketball player later played for the Los Angeles Lakers from 19709 to 1975. He joined the Phoenix Suns in 1975 before bringing his playing career to an end a year later.
Career as Coach
Riley delved into the world of coaching and started as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers in 1971. Ten years later, he rose to the rank of head coach. He remained in that position until 1990, when he left to coach New York Knicks from 1991 to 1995.
Riley also had coaching spells with the Miami Heat, which ran from 1995 to 2008.
Personal Life
The former basketball player married Christine Rodstrom in 1970.
