About Pat Tillman
Patrick Daniel Tillman Jr had been a professional football player before he abandoned it to join the United States Army in 2002. He was a linebacker during his college days for Arizona State University’s Sun Devils football team and proceeded to the NFL Draft in 1998, where he was chosen by the Arizona Cardinals. He played in the safety position in the NFL.
Tillman became popular nationwide following the controversies surrounding his death while on deployment in Afghanistan.
Family Life
He was the eldest of three sons born to Patrick Kevin Tillman and Mary Spalding. His younger brother, Kevin, also gave up his baseball career to enlist in the army at the same time as Tillman. He was married to Marie Ugenti Tillman as of his death.
Achievements
He was honored by the US Army, posthumously, with the Purple Heart and Silver Star medals.
Death and Controversies
Although he was killed by a friendly fire in Afghanistan on 22 April 2004, his family was initially made to believe that it was an enemy fire, which had killed him.
