About Patch Adams
Patch Adams is an American medical doctor, clown, author and social activist who founded the non-profit healthcare organization the Gesundheit! Institute in 1971. He is known for his annual clown trips, which see him and other volunteers travel to countries around the world dressed like clowns to bring smiles to the faces of people, especially patients and orphans.
Family Life
He was born to Anna Stewart and Robert Adams, who served in the United States Army. He married Linda Edquist in 1975. He and Linda had two sons together before getting divorced in 1998.
Trivia
According to him, he was bullied so much in school that he attempted taking his own life on several occasions.
The comedy-drama film Patch Adams released in 1998 was based on his life and saw actor Robin Williams play him. He strongly criticized the film when it came out and even went as far as saying that he hated it.
