Emmy-winning costume and fashion designer Patricia Field is an Armenian-American known for her bold and expressive style in her designs. She influenced pop culture by styling arguably one of the most stylish characters Carrie Bradshaw in the HBO television series “Sex and the City”.
Background
Raised in New York City, Field has always had an eye for fashion. She opened her eponymous boutique Patricia Field in New York City in 1966 but eventually sold the property in 2016 after 50 years in business.
Costume Designer
Field met American film producer and actress Sarah Jessica Parker while filming “Miami Rhapsody”. Parker offered her the role of costume designer for the series “Sex and the City”. She used her loud personality to design flamboyant and expressive costumes for characters such as Carrie, Samathan, Charlotte and Miranda on the show. Her works earned her an Emmy Award. She went on to work on other projects like “Ugly Betty” and “Emily in Paris”. Field got her first Oscar nomination for her designs in the film “The Devil Wears Prada”. She has also worked in Asia, designing for Namie Amuro's music videos and the Taiwan television drama called “Material Queen”.
Trivia
In May 26, 2010 Vogue, Field claimed she invented the modern legging for women's fashion in the 1970s.
