Family Life
The Saint Brieuc, France-born actor was given the name Jean-Marie Patrick Bourdeaux. He was one of six children of actress Mado Maurin.
Career
In 1968, he joined the "Café de Gare" theatrical group. Dewaere, his great grandmother's maiden name, became his stage name throughout his performing years. His first film under the moniker was "La Maison sur les arbres" (1971).
He appeared in the madcap comedy "Going Places" (1974), alongside Miou-Miou and Gerard Depardieu. He also made appearances in "The French Detective" (1975) and "The Best Way To Walk".
In the Oscar-winning comedy "Get Out Your Handkerchiefs” (1978), he re-teamed with Depardieu
Death
Soon after "Paradis Pour Tous" (1982) hit theaters, his career came to an abrupt and enigmatic end. He committed suicide on July 6, 1982, by shooting himself in the head with a rifle at his Paris residence, just like his fictional character in the film.
