About Patrick J. Kennedy
As the name suggests, Patrick J. Kennedy is a descendant of the famous Kennedy family, known for their different political roles in the United States. In 1988, at age 21, he was elected into the Rhode Island House of Representatives.
Mostly known as a Democrat, he became a member of the U.S. House of Representatives on behalf of Rhode Island's 1st congressional district in 1994, and served until 2011. He has also worked on many committees including the President's Commission on Combating Drug Addiction.
Family
His father Edward Moore "Ted" Kennedy was a United States Senator. His mother, Virginia Joan Kennedy, is a renowned former model and musician. He’s the brother of television personality Kara Anne Kennedy, and politician Edward Moore Kennedy Jr.
He has been married to Amy Savell since 2011. The couple gave birth to their fifth child, Marshall Patrick Kennedy, in 2018.
Education
He studied at Phillips Academy before joining Rhode Island-based Providence College.
Trivia
He’s widely celebrated for his mental health campaigns. He’s the founder of the ‘One Mind’, and Kennedy Forum on Community Mental Health organizations.
His uncle, John F. Kennedy, was the United States’ 35th President.
