About Patrick O'Brian
At the age of 15 years, Patrick O'Brian published his maiden novel which was titled “Caesar: The Life Story of a Panda Leopard”. He continued with a number of publications before releasing the first episode of his famous Aubrey–Maturin series in 1969 which was titled “Master and Commander”.
Aside from that, he translated many works to English and wrote biographies of some renowned individuals like English naturalist Sir Joseph Banks.
Family
His dad, Charles Russ, played a key role in the publication of his first novel. At age four, he lost his mother Jessie Russ Goddard. He was raised together with eight siblings. In 1936, he married his first wife Elizabeth Jones, and together they had two kids. He later married Mary Tolstoy O'Brian.
Education
He studied at the St Marylebone Grammar School, and the Lewes Grammar School.
Trivia
Aside from his original name, he also used Patrick Russ as his pen name.
During World War II, he worked with the Political Intelligence Department.
He was also trained at the Royal Air Force.
