Paul Francis Conrad is one of the most accomplished political cartoonists in history. The American has enjoyed a successful career for over five decades, winning several Pulitzer Prizes and earning prominence for his analytical works on more than ten USA presidential administrations.
Background & Education
The cartoonist was born and raised Catholic in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is an alumnus of Roosevelt High School and holds a degree in arts from the University of Iowa.
Career Highlights
He drew for the "Denver Post" between 1950 and 1964. However, from 1964 until 1993, he was the main editorial cartoonist for the popular "Los Angeles Times". During these work experiences, he offered a critical viewpoint on eleven American presidential regimes.
However, he brought a unique liberal editorial stance to the traditionally conservative Times and was admired for his talent and courage in speaking the truth to authority. In his works, he often discussed current social justice topics, such as American poverty, civil rights movements, the Vietnam War, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and political and corporate corruption.
Honors
His major awards include the "Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning", the "Distinguished Service Awards for Editorial Cartooning", "The Overseas Press Club awards" and "Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award".
