About Paul Eston Lacy
Paul Eston Lacy made a significant contribution to research on diabetes mellitus. The American anatomist and experimental pathologist received credit as the brain behind islet transplantation, which is an experimental treatment for type 1 diabetes and is still pending approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He taught in the Washington University School of Medicine, Missouri’s Department of Anatomy and later became the university’s chairman of Pathology.
Family Life
His first marriage to Ellen Lacy lasted for over 50 years, produced two sons and ended with her death from lung cancer in 1998. He got married again in 2002 to Bonnie Mattingly.
Achievements
He was given the Washington University School of Medicine’s Distinguished Service Award and the American Society for Investigative Pathology’s Gold-Headed Cane Award.

He died on February 15, 2005 from usual interstitial pneumonia.
