About Paul Martin
After his law training, Paul Martin was named to the bar in 1966. Four years later, he was selected to the board of directors of Canada Steamship Lines. In 1973, he became the Chief Executive Officer and president of the organization.
He started his political journey in 1988 when he won the elections to represent LaSalle-Émard at parliament, and served until 2008. During that period, the Canadian politician, who has spent most of his career with the Liberal Party, was appointed to many positions including as the Minister of Finance.
In 2003, he was made the head of the aforementioned party and was appointed Canada’s Prime Minister later that year.
Family
His dad, Paul Martin Sr., was once a Secretary of State for External Affairs. Eleanor "Nell" Alice Adams is the name of his mother. He grew up alongside a sister called Mary-Anne Bellamy, who died in 2011. In 1965, he married Sheila Cowan with whom he has three kids named David, Jamie and Paul.
Education
He had a brief stay at the University of Ottawa and later went to the University of Toronto’s St. Michael's College for his first degree. In 1966, he graduated from the law school of the institution.
Honors
He became a Companion of the Order of Canada in 2011.
Trivia
In 1946, he was diagnosed with polio.
