About Paul Whiteman
Paul Whiteman was a household name during the 1920s and 1930s. During that period, he performed with many top musical groups which made him one of the most popular bandleaders of his era. In 1920, together with the His Ambassador Orchestra, he issued a single titled “Whispering”. His other popular recordings included "Three O'Clock in the Morning" and "Valencia".
Television and Radio career
Aside from his stage crafts, Whiteman was also known for his appearances on television and radio. He was best known for his time on NBC’s radio show titled “Film Star Radio Hour” which also featured the likes of Douglas Fairbanks and Charlie Chaplin.
Family
His parents Elfrida Dallison and Wilburforce James Whiteman were also into music. In 1931, he married his fourth wife Margaret Livingston. The couple lived with their four adopted kids.
Achievements
Three of his songs titled "Ol' Man River", “Whispering” and "Rhapsody in Blue" have been selected into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 1993, he became a member of the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame.
Trivia
He had a short spell in the United States Navy.
